Buffalo Collegiate Charter School (May-June 2021)

Student Gallery

Get Fokus'd Productions (GFP) designed a Creative Media Arts & Education program called Through the Lens. The purpose of this program is to display the similarities of the camera and the pen/pencil and how both in unison can capture compelling and thought provoking stories.

Through the hands-on use of Media Productions equipment (camera, lighting and editing software - property of GFP), middle school students from Buffalo Collegiate Charter School learned the basics of photography and video productions while applying the use of literary elements to capture portraits of their peers and the selected local artists which will be accompanied by their own original writing. Students worked as a team to film a collaborative poetic visual that showcased their written work. Students collaborated and planned out their gallery exhibit, deciding which of their photos/videos will be included. The cumulative gallery showcase was open to the entire school body/organization, student’s parents, and/or the general public.

Students developed skills within the following areas: photography, literary arts, organization, public speaking, video productions, research and development, planning and goal implementation strategies.

Students' work was be published in a softcover booklet designed through GFP.

Over the course of 6 weeks, 11 Buffalo Collegiate Charter School students, between grades 4-7th, explored the art of photography and creative writing while learning about 4 local black artists, Phil Davis, Edreys Wajed, Morgan Williams-Bryant and Aitina/A.I. The Anomaly. These artists collectively have published plays, books, poetry and music that represent the plight and challenges of racism and equity. Our students captured the following images of our guests.
