Proposed Project: “Black Joy on the Eastside”
Overview
This project aims to produce a five-part digital storytelling series that captures, educates, and empowers the Eastside of Buffalo community by exploring Black Joy through the lens of the Get Fokus’d Productions model: “Capture, Teach, Give Back”. The initiative will incorporate digital storytelling, workshops, screening and discussions around the five determinants of health as a foundation for understanding community perceptions of Joy and factors influencing well-being, access, and sustainability.

A collaborative effort involving digital storytellers, writers, and community members to document authentic stories of Black Joy. This phase will include engaging residents in conversations around the five determinants of health (Education Access & Quality, Economics, Neighborhood Environment, Social & Community Context, Health Care Access & Quality) in order to explore how these factors influence their perceptions of Joy. Questions for our community interviewees will focus on how increased access and quality within these determinants can support long-term community sustainability.
Rates within this section are for the full production process for community interviews, storytelling sessions, and production of the digital content.

Total of 5 visuals:
5 visual stories between 3-5 minutes/per visual (duration can vary and is dependent on content captured during production)
1 highlight visual up to 30 seconds to use as promotion

Teach

A series of monthly digital storytelling & literary arts workshops designed to teach participants how to utilize digital tools and creative writing to craft stories.
These workshops will include:
Skills training on digital storytelling, photography, music, and creative writing.
Hands-on opportunities for emerging digital storytellers to learn how to collaborate with a professional digital storytelling company, gaining real-world experience in production, editing, and storytelling techniques.
Community engagement centered on exploring how the five determinants of health shape perceptions of Joy and well-being. Participants will develop visual clips and written pieces reflecting how improvements in these areas can foster community resilience and sustainability.
Training materials, and hands-on mentorship opportunities, including collaboration with professional digital storytellers.
Get Fokus’d Productions equipment and materials included for community members use: Cameras, iPads, Computers, lighting, workshop materials, etc.

Pre-production is the phase where all the planning takes place before the camera rolls. This phase involves tasks such as our initial consultation session, development of script/interview questions, shot list development/storyboarding, location scouting/review, organization of filming, casting/interviewee review, scheduling, budgeting, and equipment review & preparation.
The purpose of pre-production is to ensure that all aspects of the visual story services are well-organized and in place before filming begins. This phase sets the foundation for a successful video production by outlining the creative vision and logistical details.

Production is the phase where the video is actually filmed or recorded. This phase involves activities such as setting up equipment, lighting, sound recording, directing talent/interviewees, capturing footage, and managing the on-set logistics.
The purpose of the production phase is to execute the creative vision established during pre-production and capture high-quality footage that aligns with the project goals. This phase requires coordination, attention to detail, and effective communication among the production team members.
Our production team includes but not limited to: Communication & Logistics Liaison, Director/Producer, Camera Operator (DP), Camera Assistant, Lighting Crew, Hospitality: Make-Up, Runner/Fokus'd Kreatives.
Rates Include all Personnel/Team Members, Equipment, Admin & Overhead fees, etc.

Post-production is the final phase of the video production process where all the footage is edited, enhanced, and finalized. This phase involves tasks such as data handling & storage, video editing/cutting, color grading/correction, sound design, adding visual effects, textual design & animations,sound design, music selection, and finalizing the video for delivery.
The purpose of post-production is to transform raw footage into a polished, cohesive video that effectively conveys the intended message or story. This phase also involves client feedback and revisions to ensure that the final video meets the client's expectations.
Note: Our storytelling style and approach is creative, emotive and is based on musical and narrative elements.
